THE SVIJA PROJECT
The internet is not actually interesting. It's just documents.
We already had information. We have had information forever in books and magazines.
The internet brought a new dimension of interactivity, motion and capability.
Fine, you've converted your magazine, your encyclopedia into a web page. You can access it a bit faster. Cool, okay, but that's a really limited vision of what all of this could be.
I want to say: hey, this could be amazing, and instead we've just reproduced the Encyclopedia Britannic online. We're just reproducing paper.
You go to the Verge website — it's cool, it's colorful, but maybe there was a reason why the Encyclopedia Britannica was not covered with fluorescent stripes.
You can look at Instagram, cool. But how is that better than a magazine? Yes, it's more accessible because it's on your phone, but it's the same thing as a magazine. There's not extra dimension.
So, superficially Svija is just a way to build websites but at a deeper level it's a call to reimagine the internet.
It's a call to say this could be something amazing, if we don't relegate it to copying the crap that we had in the 90s and 80s in the 70s in the 60s in digital form.
